“Currency” is the sixth episode of the second season of Netflix’s original series, Black Summer. It premiered on June 17th, 2021. The episode was directed by Abram Cox.
Synopsis[]
Treasure brings out the worst in everyone, but trust is the most precious commodity in this wasteland. Rose grasps at straws, and Sun risks it all.
Plot[]
The survivors find a crate dropped by a mysterious plane. The surviving members from one group, consisting of Nazeri, Sophie, Sun, and another unnamed man, cross paths with a stranger named Sam who agrees to distribute the food found in the crate equally amongst them. They stumble upon another crate filled with weapons. As three other men arrive at the scene, Nazeri takes control, keeping the weapons to themselves.
Meanwhile, Rose, Anna, and another unnamed man, in search of safety, make their way to an airfield. The unnamed man claims to know of a safe place where they can take shelter for the night. However, when he fails to locate it, Rose's suspicions heighten, and she attempts to execute him. She is deterred from doing so by the presence of Anna, who witnesses this tense exchange.
Elsewhere, while in the act of scavenging supplies, the other group encounters an individual from another faction. They end up killing this man, leading to a hostile confrontation with the rest of his group. In an attempt to prevent further violence, Sun offers some of the weapons to the opposing group. This gesture deescalates the situation and leads to Nazeri's release.
This other group, however, faces difficulties when trying to transport the crate up a mountain. Some members, defeated by the steep terrain, abandon the effort. The crate tumbles back down the hill, taking Sam and another group member with it, causing it to break open.
During this incident, Sam sustains a leg injury and is subsequently attacked by the other member who, having been killed in the fall, is now zombified.
Eventually, Rose, Anna, and their once-suspect companion make it to a ski lodge, providing them with a temporary respite from the harsh realities of the post-apocalyptic world.
