Employed by Zona, Matheson commands the submarine that will take Murphy to Zona.

Murphy, not interested in cooperating with Zona, bites Matheson and turns him into a blend.

He is seen with Murphy, along with Dr. Merch and two other soldiers. When a group of enders attack Murphy and his newly created "blends", Captain Matheson is killed by one of them when they threw an axe to his head.
