Brett Zimmerman is a character featured in "Z Nation", first encountered in Season 1 Episode 12 "Murphy's Law".  

Background

Brett formed a team together with Henry Beale, Janice and Jason. They plan to steal Oxycontin from MESA Pharmaceuticals inc. The plan flaws and Jason is killed.  

Pre-Apocalypse 

Before the apocalypse, Brett worked security as a guard.

Post-Apocalypse

A month later after Jason's death, Brett encounters the Westward-Bound Survivor Group on a golf course. A month later, while investigating a group at an old Country Club they meet Roberta and Murphy and the rest of the gang. They realize that Murphy is immune to the zombies and kidnap him to use his abilities to get into " The Fort Knox of Oxycontin" that is MESA.

They exit cautiously, and find three people with guns. One of them says it’s “all clear” however another one of them says there is more of themoutside. They all look outside to see Murphy hitting golf balls. He comes back to them and the peopleintroduce themselves as Brett Zimmerman, Henry Beale, and Janice. Roberta introduces her group.

Later, Brett’s Group cooks up some food on and old grill and Janice offers Murphy some water. Brett and Henry discuss how Murphy’s “talents” could be useful.

They all sit down and have a lunch with meat and whiskey. They toast to absent friends. They ask about Murphy’s “immunity” to the zombies and he shows them his bites. They ask about this vaccine that saved him but Murphy says he is the only known survivor. Janice is highly impressed by Murphy’s talents. Brett reminds Henry to help our friend Doc outside and Roberta explains how they came all the way from New York. Brett offers to help them go west and toasts to California.

Suddenly, everyone at the table starts to feel very sleepy and they all pass out from a drug.  Murphy thinks it’s funny at first but then Brett draws a gun on him and takes him away. Brett handcuffs the unconscious survivors together and a zombie leaving them in a dangerous position at the golf course. They then drive with Murphy being kidnapped.

Seeing what Murphy is able to do they kidnap him and bring him to MESA. The others of the group are left at the golf course clubhouse, chained to a zombie .

They take Murphy away claiming they “saved” him from the westward bound survivors. Driving East they head for the MESA Pharmaceutical Inc.

They take a pit stop at an old dam and Citizen Zspots Murphy on a traffic cam and get his location to help the group.

At MESA's facility, Zimmerman wants Murphy to walk through the zombies to let them in. Murphy doesn't want to and Zimmerman pulls a gun on Murphy and forces him to go, but not before Murphy bites him in the arm.

They take a pit stop at an old dam and Citizen Z spots Murphy on a traffic cam and get his location to help the group. They continue further and eventually reach a stopping point where they will have to hike 6 miles to a peak where MESA is located. The reason why they had to stop 6 miles away is due to highly receptive zombies who are agile and quickly respond to sound. They need Murphy to walk in and open the gates for them.

While they are distracted disabling the car, Murphy spits in a canteen, which Janice takes a drink out of. They walk towards the facility and Murphy talks to Janice about her husband Jason who died in an attempt and the facility. She tells him to shut up but somehow has control over her and causes her to lift her gun and fire a bullet. Henry rushes over and gets scratched by Murphy after taking the gun away.

The group arrives at Brett’s truck and tries to open it setting off the car alarm. This alerts Brett’s Group and causes Z’s to show up on them.

Brett’s Group reaches the facility and Murphy is able to control Henry now by forcing him to hand his water over to Murphy. Janice, Brett, and Murphy continue and Brett explains that the zombies are on Ritalin. Murphy says he isn’t running through those zombies and Brett tackles him to a tree saying he “doesn’t give a damn about humanity.” Janice sees Jason and calls out to him. Janice accuses Brett of causing his death but they continue on with their plan.

The group sees approaches the facility and sees some zombies on viagra, looking through their binoculars.

Brett’s group approaches the front entrance and Brett instructs Murphy on how to get through the facility and how to let them in.

Murphy enters the facility and makes his way to the generator, dodging zombies. He reaches the generator room and turns on the power. He then proceeded through the storage rooms and into the main office. He activates the alarm allowing for Brett’s Group to enter. They search the storage room for the drugs they need and get ready.

They yell for Murphy to come down and when he refuses they nearly shoot him but Roberta steps in and stops him. Suddenly, zombies begin to enter the room and Henry is quickly dragged down and devoured by the fast zombies.

Zombies continue to pour in and the gang begins to kill as many as possible. Once they ran out of ammo they turned to their golf clubs and machetes. Janice sees her undead husband Jason and is unable to kill him. She gets dragged down and bitten by him, killing her.

Once all of the zombies were killed they see Brett who has a gun to Murphy’s head. However, due to his bite Murphy controls him causing him to shoot himself in the head from the mind control.

As Murphy figures out that he can control people that he infected, he manipulates Brett to shoot himself in the head.
